OUR LEADERSHIP
UPHWO is led by a team of experienced and passionate leaders, who share the vision and mission of the organization, and who inspire and guide our staff, volunteers, partners, and beneficiaries. Our leadership team includes:
- The Executive Director: The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of UPHWO, and is responsible for the overall management and direction of the organization. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, and supervises the Management Team, the Staff, and the Volunteers. The Executive Director also represents UPHWO in external relations and partnerships, and advocates for the rights and interests of the people and communities of Burundi. The Executive Director is appointed by the Board of Directors for a four-year term, and can be reappointed for another term. The current Executive Director of UPHWO is Dr Azarias NKENGURUTSE, who has been leading the organization since 2017.
- The Deputy Executive Director: The Deputy Executive Director is the second-in-command of UPHWO, and is responsible for supporting and assisting the Executive Director in the management and direction of the organization. The Deputy Executive Director also oversees the implementation and coordination of the programs and activities of UPHWO, and ensures the quality and impact of the work and services delivered by the organization. The Deputy Executive Director is appointed by the Board of Directors for a four-year term, and can be reappointed for another term. The current Deputy Executive Director of UPHWO is Ms.Jeanine IRANKUNDA, who has been working with the organization since 2020.
- The Program Director: The Program Director is responsible for the planning, design, and monitoring of the programs and projects of UPHWO, in alignment with the national strategy and the needs and priorities of the people and communities of Burundi. The Program Director also leads and manages the Program Team, which consists of the Program Manager, the Finance Manager, the Monitoring and Evaluation Manager, and the Communication and Advocacy Manager. The Program Director is appointed by the Executive Director for a four-year term, and can be reappointed for another term.
- The Regional Directors: The Regional Directors are responsible for the management and supervision of the regional offices and the field offices of UPHWO, in accordance with the policies and guidelines of the organization. The Regional Directors also ensure the effective and efficient implementation and coordination of the programs and activities of UPHWO in their respective regions, and maintain good relations and collaboration with the local authorities, partners, and beneficiaries. The Regional Directors are appointed by the Executive Director for a four-year term, and can be reappointed for another term. The current Regional Directors of UPHWO are:
- Regional Director for Eastern Burundi, based in Gitega.
- Regional Director for Northern Burundi, based in Ngozi.
- Regional Director for Southern Burundi, based in Makamba.
- Regional Director for Western Burundi, based in Bujumbura.
